Orosco Travel – Machu Picchu & Peru Tours

Salkantay Trek 5 Days / 4 Nights

DAY 1: CUSCO - MOLLEPATA - CHALLACANCHA - SORAYPAMPA - LAGUNA HUMANTAY

We will pick you up from your accommodation in Cusco at 4:00 a.m. and travel for approximately 2 hours until we reach Mollepata, where we will have a quick breakfast. After breakfast and a short rest, we will drive for another hour to Challacancha, which is the starting point of our hike.

Before starting the tour, we will meet the muleteers and cooks who are part of the team, then we will begin our hike to Soraypampa, where our first camp is located. Upon arrival, you can settle into your assigned cabins and enjoy a delicious lunch. Once we have regained our energy, we will head to Laguna Humantay. The round trip takes about two and a half hours.

Once our visit is over, we will return to camp, where you will have time to enjoy a delicious dinner while watching the sun set behind the mountains. Afterwards, you will head to your tent to spend the night.

In the morning, you will wake up with the first rays of sun and see Apu Salkantay while enjoying an energizing cup of coca tea. Then, you will have breakfast before embarking on the approximately three-hour hike to the highest point of the route, Abra Salkantay.

Once at the top, you will appreciate the magnificent view of the surrounding valleys, as well as Mount Salkantay, which is the second highest in the Cusco region. After enjoying the views, you will begin the descent to our lunch spot.

After lunch, you will be at the edge of the tropical forest, also known as the “cloud forest.” This hike takes approximately three hours. After a long day of hiking, we will arrive at the second camp where we will have a delicious dinner and rest.

On this day, you will wake up at 6:00 a.m. to enjoy a nutritious breakfast, then begin the hike through the beautiful Santa Teresa Valley until you reach La Playa. During the hike, we will take a more leisurely walk with more descents than ascents as we immerse ourselves in the lush landscape of rivers.

When we arrive at La Playa, it will be time to enjoy lunch prepared by our talented chefs while we relax before heading to Lucmabamba, where our camp is located. In the afternoon, you will have free time to explore the surroundings and visit an organic coffee farm.

After dinner, you will retire for the night. As you rest, you will be able to listen to the different sounds of nature and feel in harmony with Mother Earth.

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, you will set off along the famous Inca Trail. After a two-hour climb offering breathtaking views over the Santa Teresa Valley, you will arrive at Llactapata, an Inca archaeological site located opposite Machu Picchu.

Llactapata is the first Inca complex you will see on the hike. Our guide will explain the history of the Incas while you take all the photos you want, then you will walk downhill for an hour and a half. We will stop for lunch in Aobamba before continuing the half-hour hike to Hidroeléctrica.

Once at Hidroeléctrica, you will have a couple of options: 1) if you are tired, you can choose to take the train to Aguas Calientes (not included); if you want to enjoy the last stretch of the hike, you can take advantage of the flat walk along the train tracks to Aguas Calientes. The hike takes about three hours.

Upon arrival in the town of Aguas Calientes, we will take you to your respective accommodations with private bathroom, hot shower, Wi-Fi, and cable TV. You can store your luggage and take advantage of the thermal baths. In the evening, we will meet for dinner and give you a brief overview of the next day. Then you will rest up to leave very early before sunrise the next day.

Today we will wake up very early and head to the Aguas Calientes bus terminal to go up to the Machu Picchu Archaeological Complex. Once at the complex, you will enjoy a tour of approximately 2 hours with the guide, visiting the most important parts: houses, temples, terraces, farmlands, among others.

After your incredible guided tour of the city, we will return to Aguas Calientes where we will have lunch before boarding the train back to the town of Ollantaytambo, where transportation will be waiting to take you to the city of Cusco. End of service.
