Orosco Travel – Machu Picchu & Peru Tours

iquitos 4 Days / 3 Nights

DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO IQUITOS - ECOLODGE

Airport pickup or hotel pick-up to begin our adventure through the Peruvian rainforest. We’ll then travel to Nauta, the first town founded by the Spanish on the banks of the Marañón River; the journey takes approximately 1.5 hours. On the way to the port of Nauta, we’ll visit San Joaquín de Omaguas, one of the oldest settlements in the Loreto region.

At the port of Nauta, we’ll board the boat to continue our journey to the ecolodge. Upon arrival, a descendant of the Kukama Kukamiria people will welcome us and invite us to enjoy a refreshing seasonal fruit drink. Bungalow assignments will follow.

After lunch, our guide will invite us to choose a sustainable activity to participate in during our stay at the ecolodge (for example, planting a tree or plant, learning 10 words in Kukama, etc.). After dinner, our guide will lead a discussion on myths and legends of the Amazon, during which we will have the opportunity to take a tour of the Mythological Ecotrail, where we will see and learn about five characters from Amazonian mythology. Overnight stay.

After breakfast, our guide will invite us to visit the private reserve of our ecolodge. The guide will explain the uses of medicinal plants and trees. In the afternoon, we will head to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, specifically the Nauta Caño area, where we will register and enter the reserve.

During our visit, we will take an excursion in search of pink and gray river dolphins along the Nauta Caño stream. During the trip, we will have the opportunity to identify a variety of birds and participate in a traditional fishing practice using the same materials used by Amazonian people for subsistence.

Nighttime excursion through the forest surrounding the ecolodge. Overnight stay.

After breakfast, we begin our second excursion into the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. We will navigate the Yanayacu River basin, where the 20 de Enero Community is located. Here, we will learn about the work carried out by local residents, organized into natural resource management groups, to preserve the species of the reserve. Activities such as climbing aguaje palms will take place, and we will learn about their way of life.

We will continue navigating within the reserve. During the trip, we will identify a variety of birds and observe a traditional fishing practice using the materials employed by Amazonian people for subsistence. Return to the ecolodge. Dinner. Overnight stay.

After breakfast, we’ll take a boat trip on the Marañón River to Cocha Shiriyacu, where we’ll visit the San Jorge Community and the Women Artisans’ Center, known for their work with natural fiber (Chambira) and gourd carving. Return to the ecolodge.

At the appropriate time, we’ll board the boat to the port of Nauta. Upon arrival at the port of Nauta, we’ll transfer to Iquitos.
